Wetsuit Care

Treat ‘em good, have ‘em forever!

What to know

A wetsuit is a significant purchase and we want you to get use out of yours for as long as possible. There are a few things you can do to extend the life and look of your suit:

  • Always rinse your wettie inside and out with fresh water.
  • You can also get a wetsuit shampoo (or use baby shampoo), but it's not essential. You can use a natural shampoo bar to spot clean any marks on your wetsuit. See our video on How to Spot Clean.
  • Dry your wetsuit in the shade and make sure it's completely dry before you store it, ideally somewhere undercover.
  • Store your wetsuit on a wooden or other thick hanger.
  • Seal any little rips before they get bigger. See our blog post on How to Repair Your Wetsuit.

Early Care

When you get your wetsuit, take steps to ensure its longevity by investing in a sturdy, thick wooden hanger for proper storage. Hanging it on a durable hanger prevents creases and maintains its shape over time. Choose a shaded spot to hang your suit, away from direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure can degrade the fabric and colours. Proper storage not only protects your wetsuit but also keeps it looking and performing its best for as long as possible.

Daily Care

For daily use, rinse your wetsuit with fresh water after each use, ideally submerging it for a couple of minutes. Store it inside out to preserve the colour and hang to dry. Wetsuit shampoo isn’t necessary unless targeting specific marks, as the antimicrobial fabric resists odours. To clean stains, scrub and rinse with a natural shampoo bar. Our suits can handle a gentle machine cycle with natural detergent, but absolutely do NOT put in in the dryer.

Well Worn Care

Keeping your wetsuits stored in the shade is the key to long-term preservation. We also recommend repairing any tears as soon as they happen with Aquaseal (see our blog post for how to do this). Our suits are made to last, and if properly cared for, should be with you for three to ten years depending on frequency of use. Not to mention, it'll save you money too!
